Mike O'Meara is the Chair of the Historic Diving Society based in Gosport. The Society has a museum in Stokes Bay which is due to re-open after extensive renovations. Mike will be talking about his involvement in the raising of the Gold from HMS Edinburgh.
Programme
Itinerary: The story of HMS Edinburgh gold refers to the five and a half tons of Russian gold bullion it carried from Murmansk to the UK in 1942 as payment for war supplies, which was famously salvaged in 1981 from the sunken wreck in the Barents Sea by a team led by Keith Jessop making it one of the most significant deep-sea salvage operations ever, involving heavy wartime sacrifice and complex international claims.
